ลักษณะทางพฤษศาสตร์ (Botanical characteristics)

พืชใบเลี้ยงเดี่ยว จัดเป็นวัชพืชประเภทกก อายุสั้นฤดูเดียว แตกกอแผ่กว้าง ต้นตั้งตรง สูง 10-45 ซม. ใบรูปแถบ กว้าง 1-5 มม. ยาว 5-25 ซม. วงใบประดับรองรับช่อดอกรูปร่างคล้ายใบ 2-5 ใบ ยาวกว่าความยาวช่อแขนง ช่อดอกเป็นช่อเดี่ยวหรือช่อกระจุกเชิงประกอบ แตกช่อแขนง 3-10 ช่อ ยาว 2-10 ซม. แต่ละช่อแขนงมีช่อดอกย่อย 3-10 ช่อ เรียงเป็นกลุ่มเป็นรูปนิ้วมือ ช่อดอกย่อยแบนข้าง รูปขอบขนาน กาบช่อย่อยปลายเป็นติ่งหนาม เกสรเพศเมีย 3 ผลขนาดเล็กรูปไข่กว้าง มี 3 มุม มีจุดโปร่งแสงขนาดเล็ก ผลิตเมล็ดได้ตลอดปี ขยายพันธุ์ด้วยเมล็ด

ถิ่นที่อยู่ (Habitat)

เป็นวัชพืชที่มักชอบขึ้นในที่มีความชื้นสูง หรือชื้นแฉะ ทั้งในดินและดินทราย

การแพร่กระจาย (Distribution)

พบทั่วไปในตามชายน้ำ ที่ที่มีน้ำท่วมขังไม่ลึกนัก เช่น ริมคันคลอง หนอง บึง ทุ่งหญ้า สามารถทนแล้งได้ พบเป็นวัชพืชในนาข้าวในช่วงที่ไม่มีน้ำท่วมขัง และพืชอื่นๆ ที่ปลูกตามหลังการทำนา เช่น ถั่วเหลือง ถั่วเขียว พืชผัก นอกจากนี้พบในสวนปาล์มน้ำมัน หรือพืชอื่นๆ ที่ปลูกในสภาพร่องสวน พบทุกภาคของประทศไทย

วิธีการควบคุม (Control measure)

ควบคุมโดยการถอนออก หรือไถกลบ ก่อนที่พืชจะออกดอก หรือปล่อยน้ำให้ท่วมยอดขณะที่กกขนากยังต้นเล็ก จะทำให้พืชนี้ตายได้ ใช้สารกำจัดวัชพืช ต้องเลือกสารกำจัดวัชพืชที่ไม่เป็นพิษต่อพืชปลูก และถูกต้องกับระยะเวลาการใช้ เช่นในนาข้าว เพรททิลาคลอร์, บิวทาคลอร์ ใช้ก่อนวัชพืชงอก และหลังวัชพืชงอกใช้ เมทซัลฟูรอน-เมทธิล+คลอริมูรอน-เอทธิล, 2,4-D, บีสไพริแบก-โซเดียม, โพรพานิล, ไพราโซซัลฟูรอน-เอทธิล เป็นต้น ซึ่งอัตราการใช้และระยะเวลาการใช้จำเป็นต้องศึกษาฉลากกำกับสารกำจัดวัชพืชให้ดีก่อนใช้
