เชื้อเข้าทำลายตั้งแต่ระยะกล้า กล้าจะเน่าตาย หรือแคะแกรน ทำลายตอนต้นโต เกิดอาการจุดเล็ก ๆ ที่ใบในระยะเริ่มต้น สภาพแวดล้อมเหมาะสมจะทำให้เกิดแผลขยายออกเป็นวงกลมสีน้ำตาลหรือดำซ้อนกันหลายชั้น ต่อมาเนื้อเยื่อตรงกลางจะบางมีขนาดไม่สม่ำเสมอ แผลจะขยายลามติดกัน  ส่วนของพืชที่ถูกทำลาย: ผล, ดอก, ใบ, เมล็ด, ลำต้น

-หลีกเลี่ยงการปลูกผักกาดหรือกระหล่ำต่าง ๆ ลงในดินที่เคยปลูก และมีโรคระบาดมาก่อนอย่างน้อย 3-4 ปี 
-กำจัดทำลายวัชพืชในแปลงปลูก 
-พ่นสารป้องกันกำจัดโรคพืชเมื่อพบโรค ได้แก่ แมนโคเซ็บ หรือ โคเทนเอ็ม 45 มาเน็บ ซีเน็บ และเฟอร์เบม
