ในประเทศไทย พบเชื้อ WTMV ครั้งแรกในพริกขี้หนูจากจังหวัดกาญจนบุรีเมื่อปีพ.ศ. 2556 มีรายงานการพบไวรัสชนิดนี้เป็นครั้งแรกจากมะเขือพวงในประเทศเวียตนาม (2008) และมีผู้พบโรคนี้ของมะเขือ eggplant และในยาสูบของประเทศจีน (2015)
