ลักษณะอาการหลัก: แผลนูนเล็กๆที่บริเวณผิวใบด้านล่าง และอาจเกิดแผลนูนบนเส้นใบ ระหว่างเส้นใบมีลักษณะเป็นทางสีเหลือง และอาจเปลี่ยนเป็นสีขาวเมื่อแผลขยายใหญ่ขึ้น ถ้าข้าวโพดได้รับไวรัสตั้งแต่ระยะต้นหรือขณะที่ยังเป็นต้นอ่อน จะแสดงอาการแคระแกร็นอย่างชัดเจนและใบยอดจะสั้นลงมาก

ไวรัสชนิดนี้พบเข้าทำลายเฉพาะข้าวโพด จึงควรทำลายพืชที่แสดงอาการของโรคให้หมด หรือทำลายแหล่งแพร่เชื้อ และใช้ยาฆ่าแมลงทำลายแมลงพาหะ เพื่อควบคุมการระบาดของโรค
