ลักษณะอาการหลัก: ใบม้วน เส้นใบเหลืองแต่เนื้อใบยังมีสีเขียว ก้านใบหดสั้น ต้นเป็นพุ่มเตี้ย ต่อมาใบเหลือง  ลำต้นแคระแกร็นมีลักษณะบิดไปมาแบบซิกแซก ไม่ให้ผลผลิต

ดร.ทวี เก่าศิริ รานงานการพบโรคใบหงิกฝ้ายครั้งแรกในปีค.ศ.1970-1972 บนฝ้ายพันธุ์ Deltapine Smoothleaf จากการสำรวจโรคในปีค.ศ.2011 พบอาการของโรคบนฝ้ายพันธุ์เดียวกันนี้ที่อำเภอตากฟ้า จังหวัดนครสวรรค์
