ลักษณะอาการทั่วไป: 
-อาการใบลายเป็นทางยาวโดยเริ่มจากโคนใบไปยังปลายใบ
ระยะต่อมาลายตามยาวที่เกิดขึ้นจะเปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลืองเข้มและแห้งตายในที่สุด และการแห้งตายของเนื้อเยื่อที่ใบจะทำให้ใบเปลี่ยนเป็นสีแดงหรือสีม่วงเข้ม   
-ใบจะหดสั้นและมีลักษณะหยาบและหนาขึ้น
-ต้นข้าวโพดมีข้อปล้องสั้นและแสดงอาการแคระแกร็น

วิธีการควบคุม (Control measure)

เนื่องจากศัตรูพืชชนิดนี้เป็นศัตรูพืชกักกัน ซึ่งเป็นศัตรูพืชที่ไม่ควรพบอยู่ในประเทศไทยหรือถ้าพบก็ต้องอยู่ในการควบคุมหรือมีการเฝ้าระวังได้ ดังนั้น  หากมีการนำเข้าผลผลิตหรือผลิตภัณฑ์พืชที่มีโอกาสเป็นพืชอาศัยของศัตรูพืชชนิดนี้ หน่วยงานที่รับผิดชอบต้องใช้มาตรการสุขอนามัยพืช (Phytosanitary measures) เช่น
-วิเคราะห์ความเสี่ยงศัตรูพืช เพื่อพิจารณาการรับรองระบบการผลิตเมล็ดพันธุ์ของประเทศที่มีเชื้อนี้ เพื่อออกกฎระเบียบก่อนการนำเข้า
-สุ่มตรวจสอบเมล็ดพันธุ์นำเข้าทุก shipment ที่มีการนำเข้า
-พิจารณาการผลิตในแหล่งผลิตของประเทศที่จะส่งออกเมล็ดพันธุ์ ที่มีโอกาสเป็นที่อาศัยของศัตรูพืชชนิดนี้มายังประเทศไทย  เช่น การใช้พันธุ์ต้านทาน / พันธุ์ปลอดโรค / การทำความสะอาดแปลง / การปฏิบัติการเขตกรรมที่เหมาะสม
