ระยะการเข้าทำลาย: ลักษณะของเชื้อ เป็นเชื้อแบคทีเรียแกรมลบ รูปร่างเป็นท่อน ขนาด 0.5-0.75x1.5-2.0 ไมโครเมตร เคลื่อนที่โดย monotrichous flagellum ไม่สร้างสปอร์ โคโลนีกลมนูนสีเหลือง ผิวเรียบเป็นมัน ต้องการอาศัยออกซิเจนในการเจริญเป็นอย่างมาก
ลักษณะอาการทั่วไป: อาการของโรคจะลุกลามไปตามกิ่ง เมื่อแผลขยายรอบกิ่งจะทำให้กิ่งหักหรือแห้งตาย แผลบนผลคล้ายที่ใบแต่มักมีขนาดใหญ่และแผลลึกกว่า ขนาดแผลจะแตกต่างกันไปตามชนิดพันธุ์พืช ความรุนแรงของเชื้อและสภาพแวดล้อม
